This wonderful vintage Native-made belt buckle is a charming early Southwestern piece with a clean rectangular form and beautifully balanced silverwork. The buckle features a center opening with rounded ends, framed on each long side by three individually bezel set turquoise cabochons in a lovely bluish-green hue. Decorative stampwork adds character throughout the design, including outward-pointing arrows in each corner that give the piece a classic vintage feel. The back is stamped SOLID SILVER HAND MADE BY INDIANS, a period mark often seen on older Native-made silver pieces. Designed to accommodate belts up to 1.125 inches wide, this buckle is a distinctive and collectible accessory with wonderful historic appeal.
Condition Note: this piece came to me without any hardware. I brought it to a store in Old Town Scottsdale which specializes in Native American jewelry and employs two Navajo silversmiths to perform repairs. One of them determined that this piece was originally a belt buckle and added the appropriate hardware.
