This fantastic vintage Navajo-made sterling silver statement station necklace from The Navajo Hogan shop is a remarkable example of mid-century Southwestern artistry and design. Owned and operated by Carl W Luthey and his wife Esther from 1956 through the early 1970s, The Navajo Hogan was known for commissioning talented Navajo silversmiths and designers to create exceptional jewelry. This necklace features six beautifully detailed stations, each set with a bezel set Persian turquoise cabochon and decorated with sculptural leaves, feathers, and a three-dimensional flower. The standout focal point is a dramatic two-part hinged centerpiece that echoes the station design, with a round Persian turquoise stone at the top and a hand carved coral cameo below, framed with striking openwork leaves. Handmade stamped beads in 10 millimeter and 12 millimeter sizes along with textured melon beads add dimension, all strung on foxtail with hand twisted loops and a handmade hook and figure eight shaped eye closure. The back of the cameo setting bears The Navajo Hogan hallmark - C W L conjoined into a stick figure - representing designer Carl W Luthey rather than the individual maker. An inventory code AZ3AP is also etched on the back of the upper portion of the centerpiece. This extraordinary necklace is truly special and likely one of a kind.
